Are You An Audiophile?

If you’re an audiophile, you likely already have a home stereo system. It may be part of your home theater setup, or you may have a dedicated two-channel system in a library or bedroom.  As an audiophile, you’re not satisfied that you have the ultimate in audio quality.  You crave that next edge, the type of sound that takes you back to a favorite live concert, or the ability to pick out every instrument in a classical piece.

Bowers and Wilkins (B&W) is one of the finest brands in loudspeakers.  For over 50 years, they have been producing audiophile-quality equipment, starting with the first hand-built units in the back of an electrical shop in West Sussex in England.  The 800 Diamond series is part of their flagship range of speakers that is a true full line, encompassing bookshelf models to towers to subwoofers.

The best part of the 800 series?  They are equally at home in a top-end home theater as in your two-channel home stereo system in Eden Prairie. A great speaker does not have to be designed for music or movie soundtracks.  The ability to faithfully reproduce sound, from the quietest whisper of a voice to the deep thundering bass of a pipe organ, is the hallmark of a great speaker.

The 800 D3

The 800 D3 represents the pinnacle of the 800 series.  The 212-pound tower speaker is practically a work of art, utilizing the brand’s signature turbine head and diamond tweeter.  It is available in three furniture quality finishes that can fit into a traditional or modern décor – but will undoubtedly be a conversation piece in its own right.

The 800 D3 can do double duty as the front stereo pair in a high-end home theater and also be superb for stereo only listening.  As experts in both home theater and high-end audio installations, we could design it into a theater with the appropriate electronics to maximize performance for both music and movies.

To give you some idea of the performance range of this speaker, the low end is rated down to 13hz, which goes lower than the range of many subwoofers.  There are twin-10 inch bass drivers, a 6-inch midrange, and a 1-inch diamond tweeter, all of which incorporates the company’s long experience in audio reproduction.  Of course, if you crave deeper bass in a home theater, then the 2000-watt DB1 subwoofer is the perfect complement to the 800 D3 and other large speakers in the Diamond line. To complete the ultimate home theater, the HTM-1 center channel is the ideal match for superb sonic performance all around.

The 805 D3

At the other end of the scale is the 805 D3.  This stand mound speaker features much of the same technology as its larger brethren, and also functions equally well in stereo or multi-channel audio systems. With the same design diamond tweeters and cone construction, this smaller speaker offers superb sound quality in a size that is appropriate for many smaller rooms.  It can be the perfect speaker matched with an integrated amplifier for a small listening room.  It could also be a matched set of front and surround speakers in a smaller home theater, paired with one of the 800 series DB subwoofers.

There are other models in the series that fit into a variety of spaces.  If you’re interested in the finest speakers for either the ultimate audiophile home theater or listening room, you owe it to yourself to check out the B&W 800 series. Want to learn more about finding the right one for you?
