Make Your Interiors Shine

If you are planning to build a new home or remodel your existing one, you want to make it yours. Likely you have seen design elements you loved in a friend’s house, builder models or a Parade of Homes, and want to incorporate them. You may have communicated some of these ideas to your architect or interior designer.

One of those important architectural elements is home lighting design.  It can sometimes be subtle; the way a particular piece of artwork perfectly highlighted a wall, or how a built-in bookcase showcased a collection of first edition books and memorabilia.  It can be the way lighting makes the particular color scheme chosen for a room look its absolute best.

Lighting design can transform and personalize your home in Edina.  Read on to see how we can work with your builders and designers to make your spaces shine.

WHAT WE DO

We are experts in the design, wiring, and installation of unique lighting designs.  We will work with you and your builder, architect, and designer in finding the right lighting fixtures, the ideal fixture location, and control methods to achieve the design features you want.  This will include specifics like developing the lighting plan with your team for exact placement of fixtures and control mechanisms.

We include fixture mounting details, layout drawings, and energy and daylight analyses. With the right lighting design and tools, you can get coverage to every corner of your home while highlighting your favorite features. Below are just two of the tools we use to optimize our home lighting design.

LED LIGHTING

By now you no doubt know about LED lighting.  It has several advantages in efficiency and durability, and also allows more design creativity too.  First, LED lighting uses 80% less energy than incandescent bulbs.  They generate much less heat too, which can be important in certain spaces.  They are exceptionally bright but are also easily controlled with dimming.  And the lifespan of LED bulbs can be up to 20 years with average usage.

LED lights also have unique characteristics. One of the most exciting is the ability to control lighting temperature and color – in the same bulb.  With the right LED bulbs, light can be tuned from cooler to warmer tones.  For example, a cooler tone could be used in a room for brightness and focus – perhaps in a home office – and a warmer tone could be used later at night, which creates a more relaxing mood. LEDs can also be controlled very precisely, offering a wide range of brightness and dimming.

LED lights can also change colors.  Imagine bathing a piece of artwork in a wall nook in a coordinating color at night for dramatic effect.  Or perhaps creatively use color to light up living and dining areas for a party.

SMART LIGHTING

lighting control system can further personalize your home, creating lighting effects to suit your activities and moods – or just for fun.  We already mentioned the use of color and temperature for different lighting effects, and a smart lighting system can either do that automatically or provide single-button control simplicity.

Smart lighting control can also quickly set scenes, setting up lights for different activities.  A “cooking” scene in the kitchen could turn up under counter lights, illuminate pantry shelves, and fire up the kitchen island lights to full intensity.  A “wake up” scene might gradually fade up lights in a bedroom, light the way to the kitchen, and turn up the lights over the coffee bar.

Smart lighting design can extend to the outdoors too.  Using different colors and intensity, outdoor features like a water fountain gain drama, and using colored lights on landscapes and pools can create a unique after-dark experience for entertaining or just relaxing.
